Corporate Insurance
Engineering Insurance
Projects under construction, plant being erected, and machinery that breaks down.
In short
Engineering insurance covers construction and erection projects while they are being built (contractors all risk and erection all risk), and operating plant afterwards through machinery breakdown and electronic equipment cover.
Overview
A project has a different risk profile every month it runs, and standard property cover is not written for it. Engineering policies follow the works from site preparation to testing and handover, and can extend into a maintenance period afterwards.
Once the plant is running, machinery breakdown covers the sudden and accidental failure of equipment - and, where it matters, the production you lose while it is repaired.
What is covered, and what is not
Typically covered
- Contractors all risk: civil works during construction
- Erection all risk: plant and machinery during erection and testing
- Machinery breakdown for operating plant
- Electronic equipment, including servers and control systems
- Third party liability arising from the works
- Debris removal and professional fees
- Maintenance period cover, where extended
Typically excluded
- Defective design, workmanship or material - though damage it causes to sound parts is often covered
- Wear, tear, corrosion and gradual deterioration
- Consequential loss, unless advance loss of profit is bought
- Penalties for delay under the contract
- Loss discovered only at stocktaking
Cover and exclusions vary by insurer and by the wording issued for your risk. We confirm the exact terms on the quotation before you buy.
Who needs this cover
Contractors, project owners, EPC companies, and manufacturers commissioning or operating significant plant. Project finance agreements normally require it before drawdown.

Claims handled by us
We prepare the file, submit it and chase settlement on your behalf.
Working with us
We are insurer-neutral. For every enquiry we approach multiple insurers, compare the wordings as well as the premiums, and tell you where they differ on the points that decide a claim.
After the policy is issued we stay involved: endorsements, mid-term changes, renewal reminders that start ninety days before expiry, and claims that we prepare, submit and follow to settlement.
